Django in June

2012 Dates: June 12 - 17!

Welcome! Thanks for visiting. Django in June is New England's premier occasion to celebrate, study and just plain enjoy the musical tradition unwittingly launched some 80 years ago by the great French Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and his best known musical sidekick, violinist Stephane Grappelli. That tradition is now known by many names: Gypsy jazz, hot (or Hot Club) jazz, Gypsy swing... Whatever you call it, it offers one of the most ebullient, accessible jazz styles on the planet.

As always, in 2012 the event will be held on the campus of Smith College in beautiful Northampton, Massachusetts. Musicians have the option of going the full-immersion route by attending Django Camp Tuesday through Sunday, or of dropping in for a weekend of study and jamming. Pioneer Valley locals will have several other ways to get in on the week's activities—dinner showcases at Northampton restaurants, a film and live music at Amherst Cinema and our grand finale of weekend concerts by world-class Gypsy jazz artists at the lovely Helen Hills Hills Chapel.

This winter and early spring, most of the info you'll find on this site will pertain to Django Camp. A couple of months before the event (say, mid-April) we'll start providing more details on the concerts and other activities for locals. If you would like a heads up from me when those updates are in place, just let me know by email.

Regardless of how you intend to join us, I'm glad you do. I so look forward to sharing another Django in June with you.

Allons-y mes amis!
